Our Schools. Our Future. Vote YES on February 14, 2017.

Keep Necessary Enhancements in the Classroom

Editor:

I am a parent of two students in the Bainbridge Island School District. I would encourage people to vote YES again for the Education Programs and Operations (EP&O) and Technology levies on the February 14th ballot. These are renewals of levies that already exist, and it is imperative that the schools keep receiving this funding.

I am a PTO President and I spend a lot of my time working with other parents to make sure that the students and staff in our schools get necessary enhancements in classrooms. I can’t imagine the physical difference it would make if the levies were not renewed. The State of Washington does not specifically fund technology in the school. The technology levy on the ballot provides students the opportunity to work on iPads, laptops, desktops, and scientific equipment which are so important for life and work in the 21st century. One of the many skills my 7th grader has developed this year is using the technology funded Chromebook (funded by the current levy) to collaborate on assignments with teachers and peers outside of the classroom. I am in full support of this levy.

I also support the EP&O levy that makes up 22% of the the District’s budget. This includes transportation, heat, lights, supplies and most importantly teachers’ salaries. Please vote YES for school and invest in their future.
