Renewal of the EP&O Levy
A “Yes” vote renews the existing Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) Levy, which provides approximately 22% of BISD’s general fund.
Why is an EP&O Levy necessary?
Washington State does not fully fund K-12 education, and until the state legislature determine a way to fully fund education, local school districts must continue to rely on community support. The EP&O Levy helps maintain quality education for BISD students for the next four years.
According to the most recent data from Washington State’s Office of the Superintendent, 70% of Washington state school districts receive more funding than BISD. Our district ranks 211 out of 295 school districts in total per pupil revenue (state, local and federal revenue).
What is funded through the renewal EP&O Levy?
The EP&O Levy touches all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the school district. The levy helps pay for certificated staff (e.g., teachers, counselors, librarians, elementary specialists, nurses, etc.) and support staff (e.g., classroom paraeducators, school secretaries, custodians, bus drivers, etc.). It helps pay for necessary expenses such as power and water for BISD. The levy helps pay for special education programs and supplemental instruction for struggling learners. The EP&O Levy also pays for curriculum materials and instructional supplies, student transportation, and co-curricular activities such as clubs, sports, band, drama, and other enrichment activities.
Bainbridge Island has a wonderful legacy of support for quality education. Help maintain that remarkable tradition by voting “Yes” for schools.
